Group Project #2

The assignment:

Old Town North Plan

The Old Town North area of Stony Plain present a challenge for the municipality. It lies north of the well-established Main Street area that acts as a key commercial node for he community and as a tourist destination for local tourism. It also lies south of the Heritage Park which is a multi-purpose community facility site. The Old Town North are has many remnants of past planning and development practices including large lot residential, small nodes of more compact residential development, medium scale industrial use, agricultural uses, and commercial uses. It also had Dog Rump Creek running through it which represent environmental considerations.

The assignment is to develop and present a concept plan for the long term development of the area. The plan should provide the vision for the area as well as an implementation strategy for achieving that vision. While the plan should include staging and processes, you do not need to prove estimated budgets or specific dates in your implementation strategy.

Our Vision

Presenting of revitalization plan before Stony Plain Town Council was an exciting opportunity. Our group was felt very strongly about the feasibility of our suggestions and did a great job at creating and incorporating digitalized images of how we anticipated future growth in the area to develop.

We worked really well as a group equally analyzing and contributing to a development plan for Old Town North. Dylan and Jessica used their creativity and design skills to create those great infill images while Elise brought lots of great ideas to the table with her invaluable background on Stony Plain. Jalene graced us with her research skills and knowledge on affordable housing while I helped bring everything together in a visually appealing and professional presentation.
